If you are blister prone and if you currently have a blister then this is for you.

This is not going to be about blister prevention or what causes blisters, it will be assumed you know all that. This is about treating blisters.

Blister treatment has 3 aims

  1. Prevent infection
  2. Reduce pain
  3. Speed healing

We will be treating 3 types of blisters

  1. Blister roof intact
  2. Blister roof torn
  3. Blister de-roofed

Blister roof intact

Intact+blister+roof+toe+blister
  • Try not to pop your blister
  • Dress your blister (use an island dressing with an absorbent pad surrounded by adhesive egs are primapore, cutiplast)
  • Reduce pressure
  • Reduce friction
  • Monitor regularly

DO STICK ANYTHING DIRECTLY ON THE BLISTER ROOF. IT MIGHT TEAR WHEN YOU REMOVE THE DRESSING.

Blister roof torn

Big+toe+edge+blister
  • Do no tear the roof of your blister right off – put it back in place
  • Apply antiseptic (Betadine is great for this)
  • Dress your blister
  • Reduce pressure
  • Reduce friction
  • Monitor for infection (redness, heat, swelling, pus)

DO STICK ANYTHING DIRECTLY ON THE BLISTER ROOF. IT MIGHT TEAR COMPLETELY WHEN YOU REMOVE THE DRESSING.

Blister de-roofed

How-To-Get-Rid-Of-Foot-Blisters-In-No-Time-1
  • Apply antiseptic
  • Dress blister (a hydrocolloid dressing is best in these instances eg Compeed from your pharmacy)
  • Reduce pressure
  • Reduce friction
  • Monitor for infection

DO STICK ANYTHING DIRECTLY ON THE BLISTER ROOF THAT IS NOT A HYDROCOLLOID DRESSING. THESE DRESSINGS GIVE THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR HEALING.
