Attention to everyone and anyone who is currently suffering heel pain. If that is you, please raise your hand. Why not raise both hands! Keep those hands up and keep reading because the next few minutes could change your lives.

For the record, despite what you hear, heel pain will not go away on its own. It wont! It cant! It will just get worse and worse and you will be doing less and less. Doing nothing is the reason it MAY go away – because you aren’t walking, at all!

If heel pain is not addressed and assessed by someone with a proven track record and that sees and treats heel pain day in and day out, then here are some worst-case scenarios.

  • Tendons that insert into the heel could rupture,
  • a heel spur could develop,
  • walking can become very difficult,
  • treatment takes longer and gets more expensive,
  • and in severe cases the effects cannot be reversed, and surgery may be required.

When you see an expert, someone who lives and breathes treating heel pain every day, someone who is fanatical about achieving the ultimate outcome for their clients – (like all of us expert staff here at the Albury Wodonga Heel Pain Clinic and Border Podiatry Centre) – you’ll finally be in the right hands so that you can get rapid, lasting relief of heel pain.

Now, if you want to immediately want to be able to walk heel pain free, then let me introduce a kind of new technology, Shockwave Therapy to you. Don’t worry, they are not electric shocks, just beautiful pulses that kill the pain. How awesome does that sound?

Research is showing that the outcomes of extracorporeal shockwave therapy are positive. Most retrospective studies are proposing an 80-88% success rate in significantly reducing heel pain.

Shockwave therapy works where high energy radial waves interact with Substance P (a brain chemical that stimulates pain receptors in the body) and other tissues which leads to a cascade of beneficial effects including enhancing circulation, reversal of chronic inflammation, stimulation of collagen (necessary for healing, repairing and building strength) resulting in pain relief and quicker healing.

Most clients being treated for plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendon issues with shockwave therapy will require 3-5 treatments. Treatment will be stopped if the pain is cured or if 2 treatments show no effect. A standard treatment will last for approximately 4 minutes (this is on one site only) during which around 2000 waves are administered. The time frame between treatments is 72 hours to no longer than 1 week.

In most instances pain levels are reduced to a 0 out of 10 immediately after treatment.

Occasionally the area treated may continue to be tender and this is quite normal. Pain levels may be the same the day after treatment as pre-treatment and this is also normal. This is why we do a least 2 treatments. Ideally no high level impact sporting activities should occur for at least 6 weeks after the initial treatment.

There are virtually no side effects of shockwave therapy. Most commonly clients may experience superficial bruising, mild tingling and numbness, aching or throbbing but these symptoms are very modest and short lived.

There have been no significant, irreversible complications noted in the literature.
